Default pushrod problem

I have a 6-speed 2001 coupe with 23K miles (most from highway driving in two cross-country trips) and have just been told all my pushrods need to be replaced, and that Chevy is refusing to pay for the repair. Chevy is claiming it is something I must have done, however, I have never raced the car, I have followed the maintenance schedule (actually, I have usually had maintenance performed early), and followed all the break-in instructions in the owners manual. I have heard from one of the mechanics where my Vette is sitting (I am entering arbitration b/c I don't feel I should pay for this...) and he said he heard of this problem, and that it only happens on 6-speeds. Has this happened to anyone else? If so, what did you do? I am seriously considering legal action, as I feel this is a breach of the warantee and need to know if I am the only person this has happened to...

Its a common problem when people go from 3rd to 2nd instead of fourth when making a blast. The engine over revs and bends the pushrods, the rev limiter does no good since the rear wheels are pushng the engine - happens quite a bit. Either way its a 2 hour job to swap them yourself, only special tool you need is a 3/8 torque wrench to tighten the rockers properly.

Chevy has fixed many under warranty, may want to try another dealer. If you never have mis-shifted, maybe someone you let drive your car or even someone at the dealer did it..

KP is right on. If you have not overreved your car or missed a shift, there is no reason that the pushrods would be bent.
Even when they are bent, the most I have seen bent is 4....

Good Luck,

Why do they say that all have to be replaced? Do you have a check engine light on? Is it throwing code 0300? did you miss a shift?

1. Get your car to another dealer.
2. if no luck with other dealer then pull them yourself and find the bent one. It's not real difficult to do. we can coach you through it.
3. Word of advice about getting pushrods from GM...don't trust that they are the right ones. I put one back in my engine that was way too long, even though it was in a bag from GM with the right part # on it.
4. I missed a shift that slightly bent one pushrod but all 8 intake valves hit pistons as did 2 exhaust valves. I also ended up with about 6 bent valves.

BTW: a heck of a 1st post, welcome to CF, you've come to the right place for help. good luck.

I missed a shift once and reved the shi* out of it, but I don't have any codes. How would I know if any damage was done?

I miss shifted. Bent one. Got one from a local performance shop for free they had laying around from a head cam swap on an LS1, put it in myself. Its a no brainer. Especially since the rockers TQ to spec, and dont have to be lashed.
