Default Power questions (:

Hello Everyone,

I'm sure this has been discussed as these forums is on its 20th anniversary? but can you guys help me answer some questions?
I have a fully bonestock C5 Coupe other than a Corsa exhaust but was trying to develop more power with retaining the reliability as it is and will continue to be my daily.
I got it with 137k miles 2 years ago and it just touched 143k last week.

I was curious to know what would be the necessary/recommended upgrades to the car when supercharging the car with an A&A supercharger kit. (Also taking recommendations on other supercharger kits) I know a tune is a necessity forsure.
Also, would supercharger kits pass smog in CA? I been holding off on LT headers/xpipe for this specific reason.

I also have an ebay intake that I got from the previous owner that t I've always been hesitant to put in since... well.. you know... ebay. + it doesn't pass smog with.
Does anyone know if they help produce more power, or should I just stick to stock. Either way, I'd probably purchase a vararam air filter in the near future as they are reputable.

Thanks for your time for the help!!

I would call cordes performance in Tempe, az. Those guys do a lot of c5 builds and are very experienced. They regularly have cars shipped to them al over the country so they are well versed in smog issues.

I'm going to assume you are in CA since you are worried about it being smog legal, if that's the case then I believe a&a is the only smog legal kit... it is also the best centrifugal kit for these cars in my opinion and their customer service is also great, you might contact them and get their advice

The AA is smog legal you get a little sticker on a piece of card board and it says ! This car is equipped with a 50 state legal supercharger! You will not pass smog with long tubes and you don’t need them your said your looking for reliable options adding a Lt is bound to burn your piston rings out ! I don’t care what other say I know better ! The car needs correct back pressure! A good set of springs / pushrods / lifter should be all the extra stuff you need to keep it reliable! Nothing’s guaranteed but death and taxes lol !

As for eBay stuff whether u bought that item from the manufacturers site or eBay it’s still the same product I don’t know why people think oh it’s eBay ! Understanding yes some have gave it bad wrap but I have ordered about 60% of my build ! Wheels, pulley, heads, lights, seals, bolts, list goes on ! Point being if your searching for high quality or low quality parts u get what u pay for no matter where u buy it! And So happens I didn’t stinging on one Ac delco parts or high quality mods and kept it all USA built except for the head light because the Chinese built light offered most interchangeable stuff to spruce them up! Thanks you Ebay for actually having the original parts I would looking for that are so sought after like original 243 heads with sodium filled valves new old stock for 1500 for the set all assembled! I got quoted by a guy on here for 1900 same heads used OMG what a joke that was ! I’m just saying people knock Ebay ect off one persons bad experience which I have there as well but it is what is nothing’s perfect!

Which of your do your research and cross reference stuff people could actually find whatever they are

looking for ! I run a AA supercharged 5.7 with 123k !

One little thing at neutron what this your in the 800 hp club I call bs! My car is way more built it’s prob peaking 850 maybe on the high end on meth ! Oh and I just acquired a pro flex pro! For the 60’s more to the pile of waiting install!

Yes Podium 60 lb injectors proflex has two kits for our car another 900 bucks spent lol !

Besides the point the I’ve never touched a drug in my life besides weed !

The op was wanting to learn about reliability if he so happen to S/c !

One of my 1st cars ran LT and straight pipes ! About 8 months later the rings were fried ! The guy servicing the car said it this is what they do because back pressures were changed ! If they were so meant to be why are they a off road only and void your warranty since they have no repercussions?

I heard that it would go hand to hand to add Long tubes with a supercharger so the engine can breathe properly which would make sense. Is this the case?

The guy servicing your car was an idiot. Take a few moments and think about how many V8 cars over the last 60 years or so have been driving millions upon millions of miles with aftermarket headers.

Many aftermarket parts will claim "for off road use only" due to not being 50-state emissions legal...including many intakes, ECUs, mufflers.

Changing exhaust backpressure has no effect on your piston rings. Axle-back exhausts also change your backpressure.

This current engine is just over 42,000 miles since installing my headers.

Your ring wear was caused by something else.

Within this 42k the car is 20 years of age approx! That’s less then 2 k miles a years I doubt you touched the throttle enough times! We are talking reliable I had 260k on mine it prob would have gone another 100k if not for the straight pipes and mid length that actually was from the factory btw!

You should ask yourself one question if you totaled all the guys /gals here on this thread only with engine failure in pistons, rings, rods how many were running a header ? If I had to guess 85%
