Hi! Does anyone know what the canister-shaped device attached to the battery compartment might be? I'm guessing it's a fuel pump, because it smells like gasoline. Anyway, it seems to be leaking, so I'd like to know what it is before possibly ordering a replacement or attempting repairs.

looks like a catch can but it's hard to tell what the heck they did... right on top of the hot exhaust manifold definitely doesn't seem like a smart place to put it either
could be some sort of vacuum canister as well. Does your car have a large cam in it? I see the supercharger there also.
Yeah, the previous owner did all kinds of things to this car - some great, some not so great. Well, I knew it had some oddities going in, so I can't really complain. The engine has been stroked to 383. It has a procharger. There were some cam upgrades too, but I have no details Well, it's a project car... So far I've replaced the rear diff and repaired bits and pieces of the undercarriage. Now I come to the engine bay, and I have to admit with all the mods I feel pretty lost. Maybe someone on here has seen something like this before. I'm not super thrilled with where those tubes are situated.
Possibly a methanol injection system? looks similar but that canister doesn't look like the kits I've seen. Any unidentified switches or control boxes in the car?

It looks like an oil catch can but I do not see in the pic if the canister opens....Is there a petcock at the bottom of the canister? Does it look like it could unscrew? I would think those hoses are way overkill for some type of vacuum canister......Not sure why it would smell like gas either. And as mentioned, no matter what it is the placement sucks
Thanks for all the input so far! I'll see if I can get some more pictures of it after work today. I'll remove the bolts affixing it to the battery compartment, and see if I can get some better pictures of what this thing might be.
