Has anyone completely removed the radiator shroud and if so, what intake system are you using with it and what modifications have you done to lessen possibility of hydrolock?
I use the vortex ram air system which requires cutting the shroud. Drive very slow through any water more then 2 inches deep. I'm not aware of any after market intakes that require "removing" the shroud.
I remove the shroud all the time on my supercharger installs. No downside at all. I have no shroud on my car. I have a blackwing and a Vortech supercharger.
Andy am currently laying down the radiator, it has been suggested to me that without the shroud air flow will not be directed to the radiator and heating problems will result. It gets extremely warm here in the summer. I know it is probably considerably cooler climate and I'm sure with much less humidity. have you noticed significant change in temperatures after shroud.

Re: Radiator Shroud Removed Anyone? (NEPTUNEBILL)
Maybe I misunderstood the original question. You want to leave the shroud off permanently? The shroud is designed to force the air rushing under the car through the radiator. This is part of the cooling system’s design. I would leave the shroud in there.
I have the Blackwing intake so I cut a hole roughly the same size as the Blackwing and covered with screen/mesh. It works perfect. You still have most of the shroud there to direct air to the radiator, plus you get the cold air directly into the Blackwing. Gotta be worth a good 50 or 60 hp. :D

Quicksilver, you must be crazy not to add a sticker and pick up another 25 h.p.!!
Update for ya' all. I removed the shroud about a week ago as a test. With temps ranging from 80 to 39, my temp has stayed exactly where it was prior to removal (190-194). This may change w/warmer temps and I haven't driven it in the rain yet. I'll have to watch that very carefully to see how much water is entering the engine compartment and its proximity ot the air intakes. Also, I would imagine I'll be cleaning more debris out of the engine compartment, but I wash it every week when I wash the car anyway. Looking at its design, the air foil at the base of the radiator looks like it does a nice job of routing the air over the radiator. My hope is to add additional cold air from outside into the air intakes and I believe that removal of the shoud has in fact accomplished this. Did I get more HP? Hard to say w/o Dyno or 1/4 mi runs, but I believe so.
If I had a stock car, I would have left the shroud on. With the S/C setup and the intercooler I am now using, the shroud had to be completely removed. :smash:
