Default Clock Spring = ZERO FUN

Just spent the afternoon, and this evening, replacing the clock spring after getting an intermittent B0026 code. Should have not been any big deal really - except the steering wheel REFUSED to come off. I spent about 3 1/2 hours trying to get it off with 3 jaw pullers and had just enough movement to keep me trying. Finally, I went to Advance Auto and picked up a steering wheel puller. I drilled and tapped the center of the steering wheel for the 5/16 bolts and the damn thing just slid off with that tool!!!! F U Steering wheel!!!!

Anyway, picked up a new clock spring on eBay for $50 and now what is about 6 hours in labor for it to be fixed.

Just wanted to add my experience here for anyone searching later.....DRILL AND TAP the center of the wheel first. It will save you hours of frustration.

You drilled into your steering wheel to get it off? Wow.

There should be 2 holes (not threaded) in the wheel already for the steering wheel puller legs.

I will say the right tool for the job makes all the difference. I just removed the steering wheel last weekend to replace and if you use the 2 lug GM puller in the provided holes it is literally a 3 min job. The tool was $25 on Amazon. I saw video of others struggling on you tube without it so I got it and am happy.

I had zero luck with the jaw style pullers - both the 2 jaw GM style and the 3 jaw universal. I was one of the lucky ones with the extra awesome "welded on" steering wheel variety. Luckily I wasn't the only one and found this thread. https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...el-puller.html

It worked amazingly well and I would recommend it over a jaw style puller anyday. It DEFINITELY causes less damage to the wheel if yours is stubborn.

That look just same as when i remove steering wheel. I buy jaw style puller and use those original holes in wheel. It only broke aluminium peace of from steering wheel. Then have to drill holes, make 6mm threads and use other style puller. Threads broke, then make 8mm threads and those broke also. 10mm was biggest what can drill to wheel. Then use also heat and finally loud BANG and wheel come off.

I'm sorry, should have said new to me...my bad. Allegedly came off a low mile car. But did fix the problem.
