Hey everone, new to the forum but have been reading a lot on it over the last couple months since I bought my C5. I have an 01 vette and when I bought the car the HUD did not work. Took the dash apart, repaired the HUD unti and now it works, but the speedometer does not. Been trying to figure this out all week and am at a loss.
So far I tested the cruise control, it DOES work and shows the speed
Replaced VSS
Had car apart looking for loose wires to cluster and PCM
Ran a new wire from pin 50 on PCM to pin 7 on the cluster
Still no speedometer signal on the dash or HUD. Any ideas? Im pretty certain I ran the wire to the right connectors, oil pressure guage operates fine. Could the cluster have gone bad when I took the HUD out? Thanks in advance.

I would say it's more likely you now have a cold solder joint that came loose which is kind of common on the boards of various components. Or you might have a stepper motor took a dump and needs replaced. You can pick that up on eBay cheap, probably under $5. Then replace that and see if you got the speedo back.

when I turn the ignition on the cluster does the sweep. Could the stepper motor still be bad if the needle in the cluster seemingly works right?
Speedometer does a full sweep, I say it’s good. It’s getting power but no signal. When my speedometer went I was still getting a display on the HUD. The vss signal is not getting through. Either it’s the wiring or it’s internal of instrument cluster. I would trace A7 on connector to inst cluster main board and inspection for bad connection. check if wiring ribbons are secure to the board too.
How would I test the wire if there is a pulse going through it or a signal at all? I ran a new wire but attached it to the old one so I assume that the wire is fine?
