I have often wondered the same, the first mod I did to my 69 big block Camaro back in the day !!! had a friend with a high revving 59 vette, the flywheel/clutch about tore the car in half when it exploded !!! (little cut on his little toe)
I've only seen one thread on a C5 Corvette grenading a clutch in my 15years paying attention to vettes. It was over on LS1tech, the guy has a turbo motor vette and he launched a Spec brand clutch thru the bellhousing into the firewall.
Small price to keep your toes attached in case you became the second example.
The odds are low. And I'm not one to track the car other than to figure the best launch and get a general time. Never ran a steel piece before but the power is enough to make me think about it.
