So I’ve been having the messages come up “service traction control system” “service active handling system” it would come on like 70% of time I turned on my car. I took it to the shop and the guy told me that I need a new ebcm. He said he’s a corvette guy and if a new ebcm doesn’t fix it he will pay for it (he obviously won’t), $1000 part. I sent it to Brandon at ABSFixer, he said there wasn’t a NO COMM problem he could see, also said that there was a c1277 code stored in history, he installed surge suppression, cleaned up the module, checked power supply, and even ran it in his own 04 corvette z06 and said he had NO PROBLEMS. He said that I should be fine but if problems persist to check ignition switch, fuses, and connection to CAN bus (WTF IS THAT!???). I’m thinking if I still have problems I might need to take to another shop? Or should I trust that shop that I need a entire new ebcm, BUT Brandon at ABSFixer says the module is in good shape so idk!
This is pretty confusing. So you put the ebcm back in the car after absfixer repaired it?
no , the ebcm will be put in this Monday. But I don’t think he “repaired it” this is what he said in the email . “Customer indicated - NO COMM. Could not reproduce problem. C1277 code stored in history. Installed surge suppression. Checked power supply. All OK. If NO COMM persists, check IGN switch, Fuses, and good connection to CAN bus.
That’s why I’m asking if I still have the problem should I take it to another shop, just don’t know because Brandon @absfixer said the ebcm is in good shape... but the mechanic at the shop who says he’s been working on gm for over 20 years said I need a new ebcm and the problem will be fixed... I don’t think he checked the ignition switch or anything of that though.
Whatever shop you take it to (I assume you’re not working this issue) should be checking power and grounds AT the EBCM and make sure their scan tool can communicate with the EBCM...just may be a wiring issue. The CAN bus or serial data bus is a single wire that allows all of the modules (BCM, PCM, EBCM etc to communicate with each other...when you turn in the AC the HVAC module is going to call the PCM and say “hey, I want the AC on...the PCM will answer the call and say...”let me check the RPM and outside air temp” and if everything is OK the AC will turn on !!...module to module communication in a nutshell !!
Let’s go one step at a time here. Install the ebcm back in the car and drive it and see what codes, if any, come back. No need to get ahead of ourselves here.
