UGH. So my C5 sat for over a month because it wouldn't stop raining, and the battery was dead. I couldn't get it to jump, so I switched it out with a new battery. The interior lights came on, gauges did their little dance, but when I go to crank it, I hear a click, then all the electric goes out and it doesn't turn over.
I am frustrated but not sure where to start to diagnose. Anyone had this issue? Any idea where to start?
No one magic bullet diagnosis for this no crank and hundreds of members had this issue at one time or another...you’ll have to get underneath the car unfortunately and hope this video helps !!
This has happened to me before when one of my battery terminal bolts got stripped. For me it was the ground side the side post bolt itself was missing threads and the high current would essentially disconnect the battery. Swapped out the 2 dollar bolt and it was fixed. I'm not sure how common this is but it may be worth a check as its a easy and cheap fix.
Before you go under your car you can check whether your TDR relay give 12 volt (battery voltage) to the startersolonoid with a multimeter in passenger footwell
If you look through this post will get further info on how to measure
The purple wire shown on the first photo below goes to the startersolonid in the engineroom .
If you try to start the car and get proper voltage here , then you have to go under the car as mentioned above and inspect your starter.
Lots of people post that everything goes dead when they turn the key to the start position and nothing happens, when in reality all power is switched off to systems not required to start the car. You have to check that the TDR is being energized and switching power to the starter solenoid just as the previous post has suggested.
