Default Rebuilding a daily driver

Hi guys! Getting ready to rebuild my 2000 stock engine with 227k. We plan to do a compression check and if there is nothing out of extreme order we will proceed.
Question: what’s the best option to add a little more power? Mild cam? Port the heads? Headers? I can’t spend much so the best bang for the buck is the way to go. Also, the stock tranny will be rebuilt later but for now I can’t over power the tranny.
This is a dd and a good deal of my driving is in traffic.
I appreciate your opinions.

Not apples to apples as mine has 69k miles but when I did my transmission I also changed the clutch master and slave, rebuilt the torque tube, fresh rear wheel hubs and one CV axle needed to be changed so I did both.

Consider clutch and rear main seal. PCV assembly that cakes with oil causing crankcase pressure buildup and oil pan or rear main leaks.

Up front I’d change radiator hoses and the coolant reservoir if the lower clear plastic is mustard color. PVC, have to mention again as it’s overlooked and a big issue on LS engines the way they use oil. Motor mounts and a new oil pressure sender.

Just did a complete engine and transmission rebuild on my 2000 vette. Take a look at this tread that details the whole process and feel free to reach out with any questions. Right now my all in budget was right around $4k. https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...e-rebuild.html

My .02 for a little more power budget wise.

TPS (CF Vendor) 1 7/8" LTs w/X Pipe
US MADE, hopefully that matters, (especially now) and a significant savings (~$800.00)
VS ARH which I consider the best.

Very slight mill & thinner .040 HG for a small bump in Compression &
Better QUENCH, A good VJ is a must a little Port and chamber work if its
in the budget (presuming 243s or TFS as cast 220s are not in budget either)
Quality BeeHive Springs PAC or PSI with SS RETAINERS.

Cam Motion (Smoothest lobes for longevity and quiet operation)
Titan 2 or 3 at most for comfortable daily driver.
(I like the extra lift ~.040-.050 TITAN VS Mild Performance
especially with a good .625" BeeHive Spring but might
suggest going to a 114*+3* LSA to smooth them out abit
depending on your desire for stealthy smooth VS wicked lope sound,
I know tune and idle speed can make a radical cam sound smoother,
or a smoother cam sound radical so choose a cam for driving goals
primarily, I have found both Cam Motion & TPS Motorsports
Great Vendors to work with.

A bushing upgrade for the stock Rockers ( I like CHE, but other good ones from TSP etc. are options as well)

Adding a Doorman LS2 Intake (flows better than LS6 almost FAST 90) with a LS2 TB
Can be easily added down the road after addressing Trans, will add another 15-20
HP Peak & 12-15 lb' throughout your whole range 2000-6000 RPM to above mods when
you are able.

A Great Tune will pull it all together.

Good Luck
