1998 C5 automatic transmission issue
I just bought a 98 convertible with an automatic transmission. The car has 55k miles but has an issue that I thought I would ask about. The car drives and shifts perfect on daily driving. Reverse has no issues and transmission is strong when punched down at passing speeds. The issue is when I hammer it from a stop. 1st gear winds out and then the car starts bumping off the rev limiter and it won’t shift into 2nd gear. It Once I let off the gas the car to resume normal driving it takes right off. Can anyone help me on this?

First thing I would do is check transmission fluid level.
That is more complex on a C5 A4 auto transmission.
C5 transmission fluid level is checked on lift or jack stands. With the car up start the engine and wait until transmission temperature on DIC gets up over 100, THEN remove fill/ level check plug with the engine still running, transmission in Park. As the transmission temperature reaches 122F, fluid should be at the bottom of the open fill/ level check plug hole. If not, add until fluid dribbles out, then reinstall the plug BEFORE shutting down the engine. If you shut down before reinstalling the plug, hot fluid will gush out and you will have to start over.
At 22 years, your car is DUE for a fluid and filter change. I recommend AC DelCo filter, full synthetic fluid. I will again use Red Line D4 for my 7th fluid change in 10 years.
