Default gauges go nuts

Hi, maybe you can give me a few starting points to investigate (1999, 6 speed, all stock). Last Fall I'd be driving along, hit a bump, and the gas gauge would go to empty, temp to max, oil pressure to 0. Outside temp would stay on, radio would go blank. Passenger window would not go up or down. Speedo would work. DIC would have numerous messages, including "reduced engine power," "service engine soon," the dreaded "ding ding ding", but the engine kept running strong. Hit another bump and all back to normal. Hit another bump . . .

Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks, Larry

Next time it happens, open the drivers side door and see if everything comes back to life. If that did the trick, then remove the drivers side door panel and clean all electrical terminals as some may have corrosion.

Now I read others found the problem in other areas which is possible. Least this can give you a start on where to look.

What you’re seeing is what happens when power or ground get on the serial data line which is one wire that allows all the cars modules to communicate with each other...I started to make a YouTube video on how to diagnose this but never finished the video...I actually took 12 volts and put it on the data line and this is exactly what I saw...in my case the car wouldn’t start...all DIC messages, fuel gauge goes to E...water temp maxes out, windows don’t work...when a module loses power or ground that power or ground may backfeed on the data line and that is what happens...as My Vette Life mentioned the issue may be on the drivers side door...the drivers side door module has a 6 wire connector which is under the rubber accordion boot which you’ll see when you open the door...check the connections and if this happens again just shake the boot and see if that issue goes away..if so you found the problem...you can start there !!
