Okay, been working on my '04 Coupe for a few months, mostly installing a DD Nav unit. That is complete and working. In the course of things the doors are open, etc., so I have kept it charged with a trickle charger. Last Monday, a week ago, I drove it to work - about 65 miles each way. No problem except on the way home the shift lever and the cable became disconnected due to age. Fortunately I was driving and it stayed in drive all the way home and into the garage. I fixed it on Friday with a new bushing and everything is fine - except it won't start. not even turn over. I have kept the trickle charger attached and today it says the battery is fully charged, but still nothing. Yesterday I pulled the battery and cleaned the ground lug on the frame, which, by the way, was not rusty or corroded. Not sure what to check next. Everything else electrical seems to be in working order. Suggestions?
No engine turn over is often the starter solenoid or the anti theft system. I would first clonk the starter with a long rod and see if that allows a crank and start. If it does, you probably need a starter.
Other causes could include the theft deterrent relay. Flashing security light? I am not good on theft system diagnosis but others may chime in and you could also search "theft deterrent".
Well first off does the security light go out when the key is on ??...next how did you check that the battery was fully charged ??...did you use a DVOM and see that the battery was reading 12.66 volts which is fully charged ??...which ground lug on the frame did you specifically clean ??...just need some basic info !!
Thanks for the reply’s fellow CF members, but I think I reasoned it out. Why does everything else work but I get nothing when trying to start the car? Maybe because the transmission is not in neutral or park. Turns out that even though I replaced the front bushing on the shifter cable I might have damaged/broken the cable. I have disassembled the console and checked that the cable is connected per my repair. It is, but i can feel no engagement at the transmission. I now have the back of the car up on jack-stands but not sure where to look for the cable to hook to the tranny.

If you only replaced the bushing on the shifter's end, you may have a failed bushing on the transmission's end as well.
