I was messing with wires in my center console and checking under-dash wiring and connections. When I went to put everything back together, my parking brake release button came out of my parking brake handle. It is some crazy looped affair that slides into the pressed handle, and any removal destroys the shape of the weak, thin wire that is supposed to pull on the pall to release the brake.
Well, after 5+ hours of fiddle-farting around with it, having had to remove my passenger seat, etc., I finally got it into a shape that would actually work to unlock the brake when pushed in and would also provide enough power to spring back and reset when you released it. I had to bugger up the pressed metal stay to do it.
The whole thing lasted 10 miles before it failed in the "permanently depressed" position and I am unable to use it. Should I buy a used handle? Can I just replace the handle or does the cable need to be replaced too?
I found one for $35 +$16 shipping from some outfit down south. I think they have others. It seems to come with the cable; I assume that I will have to jack up the car and remove the old one. I am contemplating installing the bleeder on the clutch, but I hear it's no picnic to do alone.
