Default Power Steering Cooler interchangeable?

HI,

my power steering cooler (98 C5 Z51) is leakting fluid.
Once I'm in there, I want to change all hydraulic lines.

The 98 cooler is discontinued, can I just use the later unit or a C6 cooler?

Thanks!

That thing is 22 years old, bent and leaking... I'd like to just replace it and all the lines. Don't wanna end up losing ll the fluid while driving.

I’m guessing they are not interchangeable. Different part numbers. Earlier cooler is discontinued. Late model is still available.

you might be able to adapt it. I’m not sure what the difference is.

You will have to tap the hole closest to the passenger fender

Tapped the hole that is already in the front cradle and bolted it in then hooked it up. There was no change to the cradle or engine bay other than the EBCM was moved to the front engine bay throughout the C5 line as far as I know. If his Z51 already has a cooler than the Z06 should fit.

just because gm discontinues a part number and supersedes it does not mean the parts are substantially different. The could have changed something internal, yet fitment is the same and possibly performance better. Could have changed vendors too.

Maybe the increased Z hp and bigger tires caused them too increase capacity. One thing myopic GM does is never design thinking the platform will be improved. Then when they decide to offer more oomph, they find shortcomings that need to be either ignored, hidden, or reluctantly addressed.

Ask C7 owners what they think about bent wheels, for example.

I never said the part number was superseded. Two different parts. Two different part numbers generally means the parts are in fact different. They “could” have done anything. You saying that they “should” be interchangeable isn’t helpful at all. If you look up photos of each part they are significantly different. But hey, they “could” fit. Who knows!

Is your EBCM front or back?. 97 & early 98 had it mounted in the back. If yours is in the back, then it would SEEM you would have room for more cooler up front. Everything is tight up there when pulling a rack. I recently sent a rack and pump to Turn One for rebuild. It is easier to remove the tie rod at the inner connection to get everything out. You will need a new Oetiker clamp. I posted a source for the large boot clamp a couple months ago. Much cheaper than gm

if you haven’t taken your steering rack out yet, you will find out. The abs module in the front makes everything very difficult. Have fun, I can give you some shortcuts, but I think I’ll pour another glass of crown an wish your skinned knuckles fast healing.

Hi,
my ECBM is mounted in the front.
I have experience with removing the rack as I have done a camswap two years ago.
Had the whole stuff out back then,

Talking about space, the LG Motorsports cooler and oil lines aren't gonne make this easier, so yes, I'll need some crown, too.

BTW, definetly interested in your shortcuts.
