Default Help steering wheel position sensor

I have a 2000 vert. The steering wheel position sensor is not working I was able to find a used one on the forum and it's not working. Mine was not seeing center and the new one is not being seen at all. I am also being told that the abs module may be bad and it's the one that can't be fixed. What is the fix or workaround for this issue? I know I can't be the only one.

Well the two parts that are no longer made....that sucks......You can call some of the salvage yards or ebay......these are expensive,,,,if you have a M model ebcm than its a bit cheaper....but what are you codes?

Codes c1287 1288 1296 I spoke to the Absfixer guy and he e said it's the wheel sensor. Shop installed used sensor and did not fix problem I'm being told it's the module. Parts are almost 2000 for used parts and what if it's something else? How much money do I throw at a 20 year old car worth 10-12k at best? Do I try and convert to the 2001-04 stuff? Do I just drive it over a cliff?😀

You should try cleaning your old sensor. It seems like a few people had luck with using some kind of spray cleaner on their sensor that was giving problems. It may or may not work but it's easy to try.

You can also find the center on 99-00 SWPS using a VOM, but with your codes (not C1283) it is more than likely the sensor. Some have taken electrical cleaner and sprayed the sensor thoroughly and some have jacked the front end off the ground and turned the wheel right and left about 60-80 times with success. Other than that good luck finding a used one. If you have a Tech2 you can also find the centering position, when you do place the end of a paper clip in the alignment hole until it is installed back in the car.
