Default AP Sprint Brakes/Squealing.

Hey guys, I had AP Racing burnish the rotors for me when I bought them (it is service they offer) and they shipped their best “street pad” for installation.

Problem is the super high pitch squeal whenever I bring the car to a stop.
Super embarrassing!

Anyway, I have to bring the car to AHP To get my oil changed (first oil change post engine build) soooo...what is the absolute quietest pad that you guys are running these days ?

Have you asked AP Racing about the problem?

Stock OEM pads are quiet. Do those calipers take stock pads?

Yes the Sprint calipers were designed to fit stock pads and to fit behind the Z06 front wheel (the reason I have the z06 wheels on my FRC)

I guess I should go back to stock pads unless there is some great, low dust, ultra-quite, long lasting perfect pad out there.

I do not track the car at all, so I do not require any type of “performance pad” by any means.

Did you break in the AP pads? Sometimes lack of the recommended break in will lead to squeals. I don't know the break in for AP pads but a typical break in would be five stops 30- 0 and two or three more 50- 0, all in sequence without a cool down between stops. You should ask them for this information. If you did not do this, do the recommended procedure twice because your pads may be glazed and subject to squealing. That process might eliminate squealing.

Back in June of 2013 I put Friction Master ceramic pads on the car. They were near zero dust and no squeal, but they were close to dangerous on the track and a mistake for my use. BAD fade when HOT. After a 20 minute session at Laguna Seca and after a cool down lap, front rotors were still 550 degrees parked in the paddock. You won't get those temperatures on the street just cruising.

Now I know better and since then have used Hawk HP Plus pads which to me are great on the track and the street but make a lot of dust and will squeal once in a while. Stock pads will make some dust but usually not squeal if properly broken in.

Stock pads and rotors don’t squeak at all.
