So maybe I am just feeling a little nostalgic. I have been thinking of converting my Double Din stereo back to stock. Curious if anyone else has done this? If so, any issues? Mainly concerned about the bracket that was cut to install the double din. What did you do to compensate for that? I still have all the stock parts on hand.
I did this on my '03 I bought last November. It came with an Alpine single DIN, and someone in the car's past removed the OEM radio bracket. My solution was to buy the center dash structure from a member parting out a C5, drill out the rivets holding the radio bracket, and install it on my car with new rivets. I recall one rivet was particularly troublesome due to the hacking the previous owner did, so I simply used a self-tapping screw.
I like the OEM radio - had my lights upgraded and added the aux-in jack for the Sirius rcvr (mounted near the ash tray). The buttons are convenient when your hand is on top of the shifter - although most of the action is punching the buttons on the Sirius.

I knew that was going to come up This guy on eBay - I paid - he sent me one that was tweaked - I sent him my old one back. I don't think he's in the biz any more. Now I am not endorsing this outfit - but they came up when I did a search on "C5 Corvette OEM stereo AUX input" - http://www.factoryradioservice.com/c...put-p-137.html
I'm subscribed to this thread, as I'm going through the same thing. I bought a bit of a "mystery box" so I don't know how the custom stereo was put in. It's not working, the fuse is pulled, so I'm guessing it drained the battery at some point... or worse. I want that rig out and go back to stock. Looks like I have the same one as JJ, a pewter FRC. Next thing I have to figure out is how to "molex" the boost controller that was hard wired into the ashtray. But first the rust in the tub... job after job after job.
Hoping for any tips anyone has if they faced this same situation: previous owner put a boost controller into the ashtray. But they didn't put in any connectors, just cut a hole big enough to feed the wires through, but not big enough for the controller. Now the little bastard is blocking my attempt to remove the radio bezel. On top of that, there's two blue wires. So I'm going to put in a molex connector and a hose barb for the boost tube. I'm dreading that moment where I have to cut the wires. I'm also praying that the tube is a 1/8" inner diameter as that's the smallest barb I could get on Amazon.
I plan on tagging one blue wire on both sides of the cut. Any other tips before I get started? TIA.
