Hello, I hope someone will be able to help me with getting my c5 started. I’m 18 and the vette is my first car and I love it but it has a lot of starting issues. I’ve done two starters, along with the solenoid and I’ve done the clutch master cylinder twice. I pulled a bunch of codes out of the car from the options menu I’ll post them at the end. All the cars electrical works when I turn the key, lights interior lights and all I’ve tried jumping it, no luck also tried tapping the starter with a mallet and extender socket no luck again. I’m thinking it has to be something with the security system and if anyone could help with what I actually need to get done that would be great this way maybe I can do it myself or my mechanic can do it and not just keep replacing stuff for the heck of it. SEND HELP!!!
Photos of codes will be attached
any questions ab the car or if you have help for me please message back
car has 130,000 miles
long tube headers which heat up the wiring harness although it is zip tied away
New tranny
The H at the end of all of those codes indicates they are History codes. Clear all the codes and see what comes back.
Also stop replacing parts until you figure out what is going on. Not sure why you would replace the clutch master cylinder for a no start problem or
was that for another reason??? When you put the key in the ignition does the "SECURITY" light go out?

yes when I put the key in the ignition the security light will shut off
I’m on my way to purchase a new ignition for 100$ should I not bother?

I needed to replace the clutch master cylinder I order get the car started bc the clutch wasn’t registered as “down”

Ah, there is a switch in the foot well for that. It is NOT part of the master cylinder! Again, you need to stop replacing parts until you understand what is going on.
BTW....how you test that the clutch wasn't registering as "down"?

ok and the clutch had no more resistance I hit 120 and it blew I couldn’t Shift anymore
I’m bringing my car to my mechanic he says he’s going to look at what could have burnt out the ignition and I’m going to have him wrap the headers and add new ignition
The C5 starting circuit is very simple, when you turn the key to start, the ignition switch sends 12 volts thru the clutch safety switch and then that voltage makes its way to the TDR "theft deterrent relay" located above the BCM in the passenger footwell area. The key's resistor pellet is read by the BCM thru two wires that originate in the ignition switch, if the BCM receives the correct signal then the BCM provides a ground to the negative TDR terminal. The TDR switches 12v and that wire is the heavy gauge purple wire on the TDR socket that connects to the starter solenoid switch terminal. The first thing to verify is that the TDR is being energized or clicking when you turn the key to the start position.
One last thing, you can place a short heavy gauge wire jumper between the heavy gauge red and purple wires at the TDR socket to see if the car will crank. CAUTION when doing this you must make sure that your car is in neutral, because doing this will defeat or bypass the requirement for the clutch to be depressed, and if the car starts and it is in gear it will start moving!!!
I'm gonna jump in here, I am having the same issue as the OP. I have a no start with mine and it will randomly happen, hot or cold. I personally don't want to be throwing money and time at dead ends. I was going to change the starter but because I have long tube headers I have to take one off. Not the end of the world but if it could be something else I'd much rather skip that step. Thanks for this info mmartinez, I am going to purse this. BTW our cars look very similar.
