Hi all,
Before I begin applying force, via an impact, I am wondering about the non-threaded puller pin insert that goes down the inside of the snout of the PS pump pulley(within the internal threads) to keep unit straight and true. When that non-threaded piece bottoms out in there(If I use impact to turn jackscrew and just hold removal collar nut), is there anything down inside that snout that could get damaged from the force of the non-threaded puller pin using it as a base to push off against?!? FYI I have the Maddox puller set from HF. Thanks for any replies.
Can't answer for sure your direct question.... But DON'T use impact tools on any puller tool... You'll need to do it by hand.
That's how the tool works
I have only used one once, but the rod portion just slid in and true'd up once there was tension on the tool. Mine came off surprisingly easy. There were no surprises.
Thanks for input foggy & CinciZ06! I went for it yesterday and, after figuring out which tools to utilize for the job, it was a piece of cake! After attempting to use my impact to turn jackscrew while holding collar nut, it was making things go cockeyed. So, I changed to the standard socket wrench(with 1/2" socket for jackscrew), along with open end wrench......not enough leverage with little socket wrench. Broke out the HF 25" breaker bar(1/2" connector), along with a 13mm deep impact socket(fit on jackscrew) and the 25mm(fit on 1" collar nut) open end large wrench. I had let some liquid wrench soak in for a bit, and with the last combo of tools I listed, It came off like butter(In perfect condition----but I won't be reusing that junk). On to the PS pump rebuild
