2001 quits while driving starts right back up with key gouges go dead but come right back . Been noticing gauge sweep if erratic on key cycle sometimes.
Sounds like a possible bad ignition switch if it just cuts out completely while driving like that...bad crankshaft sensor would also cause the car to quit !!

Has not happened to my C5 but the same problem occurred in my Murano. The Dealership said it was the fuel pump in the tank that needed changing. $1500. Went on line and found a possible cure was listed as a crankshaft sensor. Took a chance and had my mechanic replaced only the sensor. Three years later, no problems.

bad ignition switch! Been there done that. Pull and replace or clean.
been doing some checks ,car will duplicate problem periodically by just cycling key..acts like low voltage or bad grounds went all through that all seems OK. When it happens fuse panel under hood clicks profusely. I've noticed something tonight and its seems like the fuel pump sounds funny, pulled fuse for fuel pump and have cycled key numerous times everything seems OK.put fuse back in and problem seems to come back.Csr has 188000km on it i might replace the fuel pump and try.

Bad ignition switch. The clue is a change of symptoms on re start. Symptoms vary considerably depending on which contacts in the switch are in the worst condition, but die during driving is one, gauges going wild or off another, reduced power, service active handling, low voltage and on-
