Good evening, I recently sold my C4 and purchased a 2000 C5 Coupe today. It is a low mileage car but both
window regulators are bad as told by the previous owner. I was wondering which cmpany makes the best replacement one,
I have seen that the GM replacements are not that good. Looking forward to hearing from you all.
you might have better information than myself, I never read about quality problems with the OEM stuff when I was researching my repair.
The design, on the other hand , often gets a few questions, the sealed can design on the motor collects the carbon dust , and over the years it can collect in a pile tall enough to short out the contacts, so pounding on the door to settle the dust away from the brushes to restore function is often suggested as a cure. I assume the closed design is for dust control.
Ireplaced my motor with a part from auto zone, for simplicity sake, they were close, it was Saturday and I got the part on Sunday. My new part was out of Mexico, and looked identical to the part I took out, which was also labeled from Mexico.
from the slight info I found at the time , the OEM motor now available was also imported, but I couldn't say from where. I wasn't that concerned about quality, since electric motors are so common. Fit and function were fine. I normally choose only GM parts, because of advice from some top corvette pros shipped in to give advice at a Petersen car museum event. Seems to be a very sound path as a general guideline. since the car uses so many American suppliers, it is sometimes possible to avoid the GM price structure with many consumable parts by selecting the originating manufacturer of those parts.
I suggest doing some reading first hand as these regular and modules are vehicle specific for security purposes . I suggest you find used parts for this quest unless the manufacturer states they are new for all years and models for that make .
Do they work at all? If not there is a way to possibly get them working. My drivers did not work when I purchased mine. I did what someone told me to do (from this site) and it has worked ever since.

Take off the door panel and where the screw or nut (can't remember) is that holds the regulator / motor on take a screw driver place it on it and tap it with a hammer. It did this a year ago and it has worked ever since.
I have a door module for 75.00 plus shipping cost not sure if it’s you vin match year match . After the module exchange you will need a relearn process to happen doing so via the guide how to on that. I would say grab some window switches as well there’s a guy selling led one new any vin on those I seem to think they are good quality .
I posted a couple of weeks ago that my drivers side window stopped working out of the blue. I tried the hit the door method today and it worked. It works perfectly at least for now. Thanks!
I've replaced the passenger side window regulator last month with one I found on Amazon. This one is an exact replacement that does not require the dongle adapter to connect it to the OEM wiring. Beware, that some regulators marketed as exact replacements will require you to purchase the additional adapter.
I forgot to add that if you have a convertible, try to avoid messing with the adjustments on the glass. The adjustment has to be just right, and I have heard it is difficult for even experienced guys. with a window frame, I guess it is just a regular problem best avoided.
My car didn't have to relearn anything when I replaced the window motor , as one poster suggested above. in every post I read , the new motor just slips right in, the mechanism is spring loaded.
I lacked whatever understanding that required, so wound up screwing the worm drive into position by rotating the motor , I didn't want to risk breaking anything , but I got it in. The up and down stops are automatic, so all you have to do is engage the drive, you don't have to count the turns, or engage it at a certain place to get it to function properly.

Hi, Im new to the forum. Not sure if my issue is the same as referenced in this thread. I have a C5 convertible and the passenger window is struggling to go up and down. It not completely dead and I can get it to go all the way up if I help it by pulling on the window as someone else hits the button. The symptoms started as I was driving along with top and windows down, I starting hearing a rattle on the passenger side. Rolling up the window half way stopped the rattle, but the motor has struggled ever since. Does this sound like I need the regulator replaced? I would also like to try the "hit the door method", but not clear on exactly where and how thats accomplished. Any help or advise would be appreciated.

I would say it’s the regulator. The hitting the door method only works if it’s doing nothing at all I believe. Mine stopped altogether and hitting the inside handle got it to work temporarily. It’s still going to need changed.
