The "air intake valves" as it was explained to me need to be replaced. One is completely clogged and the second is on its way. Dealer is charging me $380 to fix it all; $200 for labor, $180 for parts ($80 per hour) - Am I getting hosed? I dont know anything about this...
Re: Engine light on - emmision question (webdzynes)
I assume you mean your "Check Engine Light" is on? If so have you downloaded the codes then re-set them to see if they re-appear? If not you should before spending any $$$. When doing this take something out to the car to write down all the codes, then use the web site below to see what they mean. http://www.stengel.net/diccodes.htm
I had a check engine light last Sunday caused by not securing the gas cap properely. I found the code, re-set it and I'm fine now. Try this before taking it to a dealer. If nothing else you'll know what codes are being generated and weather or not the dealer is being honest.
Re: Engine light on - emmision question (webdzynes)
Sounds like the AIR system check valves that prevent exhaust from getting back into the air injection system. Do you know how to extract trouble codes from your DIC? (See AFVETTE's post above) The codes will reveal the cause of the service engine light. If the bank 2 valve needs replacing, that requires removing the intake manifold to get at the valve which is on the back side of the engine. So $200 for labor is not unreasonable. GM list price for the check valves alone is $23.54 each. Get those codes.

Sorry - it was already at the dealer when I got the information. What was posted here is exactly what I was told was the problem and the procedure. Sounds like I'm getting a fair shake - thanks guys
