I am a regular in the C4 section but I need some LS1 help. My buddy just purchased a new to him skiboat. It has an LS1 in it. Sometimes it won't start, he was told by the previous owner that it gets vapour lock. What do you guys think ?? If he leaves it for 5 minutes it starts right up.
No easy answer to vapor lock on a custom fuel system, could be a lot of things. when you go from low pressure to high pressure its easy to boil the fuel. Add in ethanol and it gets worse. Lines to small, too close to heat....
1) Never under any circumstances use automotive parts on the engine. They must be marine parts. Marine parts suppress sparks that could blow up the bilge if there are gasoline fumes in it. Carbs, ignition components, starters are all designed to prevent explosions.
2) As suggested, the bilge blowers may cool it.
3) Is the gas fresh and correct for the season. If it has old gas in it, such as left over from cooler weather, it will have a different Reid vapor pressure and will vapor lock in the summer.
4) See rule #1
