Default Belt problems after Katech tensioner install.

Has anyone experienced excessive belt wear or stretching after installing a Katech serpentine belt tensioner? I torqued the tensioner to 25 ft/lbs. as recommend, but now I am on my third belt after two track weekends and the last belt only one day driving around town!
Any advice?
Thanks,

JBN

Default Belt Solution

If this would be of help to anyone, here is my solution below:
I called Katech and their tech guy said that he had not heard of this problem before, but he recommended going with the next sized shorter belt. I had been using a Gates K060802, so I checked the Gates online sizing chart and found the K060798 which is 2040 mm instead of the 2051 mm. Both have the same 20 mm diameter. I was able to tension the belt to the recommended 25 ft/lbs with the new belt. Tracked the car all weekend at NCM without issue, so that seems to be the fix I was looking for. Will just have to monitor to excessive wear, or tears. Hope this is of some help to anyone experiencing the same problem.

I haven't really seen issues with the stock one. Is this one auto or manual tensioning? Glad you got it sorted either way.

Mostly likely he is over tightening the belt . 1/2 inch of play split bxt up and down is about the best . 1/4 inch up and and 1/4 inch down and and should be fine just not so tight you got to use your muscles to move it .
