Default 6th gear rattle

Recently I drove the car in 6th gear during a long road trip at cruising speed 70mph and rpm at 1500 and the car make a rattle sound when I gently accelerate above 70mph. But I notice when I shift to 6th gear at 80mph with rpm at 2000 while cruising, no rattle when I accelerate pass 80mph. Is this normal? Do I need to take to a turner for fine adjustment? Much appreciate your time.

When you mean rattle is it engine front middle or in the back of the car??. Sounds like something is loose. If it not engine then you don't need a tune.

Yes, the rattle coming from engine. It disappear if I down shift to 5th or maintain 80 plus mph or keep it above 2000 rpm. So a tune?

He’s dragging the gears and the clutch at those low rpm. Same results would occur driving 25 in 5th . If you want to clear this up you will need to add a lighter fly and some more ponies to improve low torque pushing abilities. I’m sure lighter drive shafts ect would work there’s prob many ways . Lighten the car . He’s trying to gun accelerate in 6th from 70-80. End result your car isn’t strong enough to make that happen smoothly . Under light load it’s fine . If your constantly getting on it that way your gonna bend some parts in your engine . Shift .

The way your car is your 6th gear isn’t for pulling /passing its for cruising and getting some good mpg .

I had what sounded like light detonation on my high mileage (about 165k then) MN6 under very similar conditions. Doesn't happen at altitude where I live and normally drive (about 6,000'), but did closer to sea level. Shifting down was the best cure.

What did the tuner do? I was going to, surprisingly, agree with Speedy's first and last sentence. I'm curious what the tuner did to fix this unless he threw in some 4.10s...lol

I don't know but it running excellent at 6th gear with rpm below 2000. I'm cruising 70mph on 6th gear with no rattle when I accelerate. SHAWN from Church tuning in Wilmington, CA.

Perhaps it was some mild detonation, and he adjusted timing profiles?

Don’t get how you have a car tuned and don’t ask what was done for adjustments. Just for the sake of know at least.

Literally no tuner is going to sit there and go over every adjustment they made with you. Most people wouldn't have a clue what they were talking about anyway.

I'd probably be curious what the fix was for the specific issue I brought it in for though...
