Default Blackwing air induction lid

What are the advantages of having this over just a Blackwing? I have heard there are some problems with these lids setting off codes. Who out there has one and what is your opinion on this mod? :chevy :chevy

I had the balckwing with and without the cover. Here is what I know:

Without the cover:
1) more power then stock
2) easy install
3) sucks in all the hot air under the hood. I registered 147 degrees air intake while waiting in the staging lanes at the track. While going down the track it dropped to 115 degrees. I also have cutouts in the fog light area to let more cooler air into the engine area.
4) no surging whatsoever....
5) filter can get when when it rains....(bad)

With the cover:
1) more power then using this filter without the cover.
2) more involved install- you must try to seal the cover down as best you can.
3) much much cooler air intake temps. I registered(with an autotap) air inatke temps that were the same as the Vortex unit. Never goes anywhere near the temps when not using the cover. Just so you know I dropped nearly 30 degrees when the cover is put on in regards to air intake temp.
4) Most people experience surging due to the design of the cover. The cover causes air turbulance. My is very very minor and only happens when I am coming to a stop.
5) filter cannot get wet when it rains.......(good)

Overall using the cover is the better choice.......

Good luck,
Tony

Hey Tabbruzz - Two questions: Who carries the filter cover, and is cutting a hole in the shroud (like for the Vortex kit) necessary for installiation.
Thanks.

Vettman10,

I know that slp sells them as well as others so you would have to do a search. Some vendors have stopped selling it as customers complained about surging. Yes, you do have to cut a hole like the vortex unit, but the hole will be bigger. I sealed the lid down the best I could. Personally, if I had to do it all again I would go with the vortex unit. The vararam is another option, but to me its too damn expensive and I really don't think there is much of a difference from the other units like the vortex or blackwing.
