Default Transmission cooler

Just noticed that when I had the radiator replaced they installed a small transmission cooler and by passed the original set up with a small tranny cooler. Now my transmission gets hot up to 230 degrees.Fast. I want to plum it into the original place in the radiator but it has quick disconnect fittings What do I need to buy to get it back to original Thx

one more thing they connected to the smaller tranny cooler with rubber hoses. So again how to I get it back to the ordinal radiator

thx

I took mine to a well known corvette shop in IL. I road course my A4 transmission about twice a year. Had a transmission cooler installed. I still have original radiator. I have the 3.15 rear gear. Before the transmission cooler, the transmission temps would run regularly about 200 degrees for everyday driving on a hot day, and while on a road course, it would reach 240 degrees, after the cooler, it doesn’t get over 172 degrees on a hot day, regular driving, and road course, extensive high rpms, because I’ll ride 2nd gear through a lot of corners, 70mph, etc, trans temps will only get up to 205-209.

take your car to a professional. My transmission is still the original, 65,000 miles on the car, about 2,000-2500 hardcore track miles. I’m surprised it’s still in one piece.

I run the trans fluid through the radiator first, then through an auxiliary cooler in front of the condenser. Fluid flow through the radiator cooler is- in at bottom, out at top.

DeWitts can supply the quick disconnect fittings.

I would not bypass the radiator cooler.

Your cooler could be miss piped for wrong direction flow, maybe creating an air lock.

I have had NO trouble with rubber hoses in the trans fluid cooler loop.

My A4 runs 140- 190 on the road unless it is hot out. 114 degrees outside air temperature, 75 mph on the freeway results in about 200 degrees transmission temp.

I've been running my 2001 A4 on the track for 10 years, 19 track days so far, 13 at Laguna Seca. Transmission temperature is rarely above 230 on track. The engine and transmission are STOCK, 114,000 miles so far, 40,000 during my ownership. Lessons I have learned are:

- It takes several mods to keep the transmission cool on track-
B&M or equal finned aluminum trans pan
DeWitts or equal radiator (Mine with engine oil cooler and Improved Racing engine oil thermostat also)
Auxiliary trans cooler in front of the condenser
Sac City Cool It to call up High fan coming off track
I run Red Line D4 full synthetic ATF and change fluid and filter every six or so track days
I monitor transmission temperature on track with the DIC

Thanks, all good advice, but my concern is how to connect the quick disconnect lines to the oringal tranny lines coming from my transmission on my 2000 c5.

[QUOTE=Michael Coates;1601941148]Thanks, all good advice, but my concern is how to connect the quick disconnect lines to the original tranny lines coming from my transmission on my 2000 c5.

I installed the new radiator/tranny cooler, but the radiator has the newer quick disconnect fittings, so now, if I purchase new quick disconnect transmission lines coming from the radiator they will fit into the radiator where the tranny lines go, but they will not properly connect back to the transmission lines coming from the tranny as they are original.

So, my question is how do I flare the tranny lines coming from the tranny to the radiator to accept the new quick disconnect lines?
How do I know which of the to lines connect to top and bottom of the radiator/transmission cooler?

Sounds to me that they put a late model radiator in a early model car. You really only have 2 options at this point. Either put the correct radiator in the car that'll work with the flare fitting lines that are already in it, or replace the lines with later model C5 lines that have the quick connect fittings. DeWitt's makes a fitting to go from quick connect lines to an early radiator, but not to go the other way. At least that's how I read it.
