Hello all, I have a 2003 Z-06, and lately I've been getting a "service vehicle soon" message. I have replaced my battery. I have taken the car to the dealer for scheduled maintenance and they replaced my plugs and wires. They told me that the message if from the scheduled maintenance that was due. I pointed out to the mechanic that when he did to previous schedule maintenance that I did not get that message. I realized that they don't have a clue. So I am asking around to get an idea of what this could be. I looked up the message in the owners manual and it stated an electrical problem. I use the D.I.C. to cycle through the codes and I looked them up and they are
BCM B0432, B0502 B0507 B2482
SDM U1040
HVAC B0361
When I look up each codes they are for DRL relay circuit, back up lamp relay circuit, hvac left actuator short to gnd. I'm due for an inspection this month and I may have to take the car to a specialist. I was hoping some of you may guide me to a solution first. Thank you for any help.
The service manual says "The IPC illuminates the SERVICE VEHICLE SOON message in the DIC when the PCM detects certain malfunctions that are not related to the emissions system,"
I spoke to a corvette guru and he suggests that the ignition switch is the problem. After watching several you tube videos and noticing that other owners where getting the same symptoms. I have decided to order another switch rather than to clean the contacts. I will repost the results when the work is done. thanks for your help.
Rastan, none of the codes you posted will cause you to fail the emissions test here in NC. However, if you are tempted to disconnect the battery to clear any codes you need to know that it will dump your emissions data and report "not ready for test" when plugged in at the test station. You'll need to put about 50 miles on it before having it retested. Clearing any of these code by the way in the DIC, will not affect the emissions test.
When checking codes, it's important to note if they are H or C, or both - H & C. "H" codes should be noted (in a log/note book if you have one), but can be cleared at any time. A "C" code means it is current and indicates the malfunction is still current and may need to be corrected before it will go away. These can also be cleared, but will likely return.
I hope that I'm not being to soon with this but It would appear that my problem may be solved. I replaced the ignitions switch with another factory unit and cleaned my battery cables. I had another situation where I got dash lights but no start. I had tightened the positive cable and it cranked right up. So I went home and cleaned it. Now most of the codes are gone except the hvac codes which are history. I'd like to thank everyone who chimed in to help me out with this.
