Key Fob will not reprogram...
I recently purchased a '99 FRC. The car did not come with transmitters. I have since purchased one and tried to program it to the car with no luck. The transmitter is brand new and was supposedly tested on a '98 with no problems. I've tried replacing the battery with no luck. I also checked and double-checked that the procedure I was going through was correct. I get all the way to the "Press LCK+UNLCK" but after holding the buttons on the remote for well over 15sec. I get nothing.
Does anyone know what might be wrong? Are there any situations where the PCM will not let you reprogram the key fobs?

I had a similar problem in trying to program a new key fob for my '98 Explorer yesterday. The Ford manual directions would not work!!
I went to Google and searched for directions. Seems like the manual was incorrect in the number of times you turned the ignition key on and off (part of the progarmming procedure). Not sure what the procedure is for a Vette.

I obtained instructions from 3 different places (dealer, manual, and here) and all had the same procedure.
Somebody has to have a suggestion?

I replaced the battery in my fob, did the relearn and resync and it still doesn't work. I get two honks and the doors cycle b/w lock/unlock twice. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Mine has the active/passive feature... I also tried the battery trick and had no luck, still no honk. :mad

It's easy for the contacts in the fob to bend and not make good contact with the battery. Open the fob and insure that they are making good contact with the battery. Be gentle, they are also easy to break off.

If you have a little volt meter check that your getting 3 volts on the 2 little contacts from the battery. Also check that when you put the fob together again that the contacts touch the pads on the otherside. I had to bend mine slightly to get everything to work.

I got my 99 and the FOB did not work. I though it was the battery and replaced that...nothing. I then went and bought 2 more FOBs on ebay for over $100. Then one night I was messing around with my original and decided to pull out the volt/ohm meter. I was able to "fix" it by inserting a piece of paper under the battery on the side to insulate what seemed to be shorting the circuit. I now have 3 FOBs. I will sell one of the extra ones I bought (not the one I fixed) for $50+shipping if you need it.

Brian - If I can get one to work I will probably take you up on it. I'm having enough problems as it is though :)
I tried playing with the connectors, I'm sure they are making contact and I have a new battery. I broke out the digital multi-meter and everything looks ok. Any other ideas?
If there was a problem with the receiver, would it throw a DTC code?

Trey, I'm in the same boat. Can you get yours to learn to the car? When I get mine learned it does 2 honks instead of one and the fob still will not work.

I just thought of one way to verify that it might be the FOB after all... What is the FCC id on the back of your transmitter for the '99s? I'm looking at AB00216T. I think this changes with the model year.

Hmm. FWIW, mine has that same number, does not have an active/passive switch, works on my car (needs relearned a lot) and I have a 2000.
