Default Think my CV joint is going.

Every time I take off from a stop I now hear this clicking sound coming from the driver rear wheel area. It clicks about 4 or 5 times. It's not the clutch. Am I guessing right?

It's a possibility. How many miles do you have on the car? The CV joints are pretty durable but if you have a cracked or torn dust boot, dirt and contaminants will get into the outer joint cage and wreck the ball bearings causing the "clicking" sound. Usually the sound will stay around longer as the CV deteriorates. I'd look at the boots and see if there is any damage. Then I'd grab a handfull if wheel shaft and see if there is any play at the CV. Also, if you hit the launches really hard a lot, the CV will wear out sooner.

Good luck and SAVE THE WAVE :seeya

Do C5's actually have CV joints? I thought we have plain old universal joints.

Nope. Your 2 rear half-shafts, or drive axles (GM tech terminology) are actually the same old fashioned constant velocity type CV joint component you will find on every front wheel drive car in the USA.

They will deteriorate just like those good old CV joints as well. They are pretty rugged but when they go, you gotta replace them.

SAVE THE WAVE :seeya
