Default chronic PIAA problems

i've had my PIAA foglamps for about 1.5 years. after a year, the original relay died. i called PIAA and they shipped out another "better" relay for free. that one lasted about 6 months. now my PIAAs don't work again. :( anybody got a better solution? seems that the relays are backordered at PIAA now and the wait is at least 6 weeks.

the PIAAS are bright as heck, but i'm tired of blown bulbs and relays. such a PITA that i'm considering just putting some crap $20 foglamps from Pep Boys on the car. can't believe i spent $200 on crap that keeps breaking.

i never had any problems with the relay but i've been through two blown bulbs in about a year and a half also. i would double check the wiring again if i was you.

I run mine off of the original wiring setup and everything works great. (I did just blow my first bulb - about 1 year into them)

With regards to the relay I bet a $10 relay from the auto store would work.....similar to that shown here. I just blew out my first bulb and have replaced the relay as well. If the relay goes again I putting in a Bosch relay.

Good luck

Did you all touch the bulb ?? I had a set on my Maxima for 2 years and sold it with them still working. Bulbs cannot be touched as with any halogen or the oil in your skin can deteriorate the bulb. Dont know about relays.....

I agree that bulb life is terrible, but it should probably be expected. Hot bulbs have less life. The sad part is the price of the replacement bulbs. This is why I haven't upgraded to PIAA's.

If you can find some other fogs that fit in the stock opening, they will most likely take H3 bulbs (Euro) or the 9000 series (USA). Either way, they're much cheaper bulbs available at any parts store.

BTW: the relay CAN be swapped with any 30A auto relay (Bosch, etc).

kw - ask them to send you the old relay - they have few in stock. That way at least you can use the fogs until the new ones get here

Is there more than one relay? The PIAA fog on the passenger side works, but the one on the driver's side went out. I've checked the fuse, the relay, the wiring, and changed the bulb. It still doesn't work.

KW,

I couldn't access the site from work previously. After the new forum upgrade, I can now access the site. What happened last weekend - you took off?? You didn't miss much. The new club rocks but the company sucked. We need to try that place again. Has a decent pool table scenery etc

cool. glad you can get here now. if you like, i could maybe set up a proxy to make it less conspicuous for you. :)

last weekend - yea, i went to get smokes, and just said "fsck it". i thought that was the gay club we went to and didn't like before. i remembered it being boring. i was actually kind of excited when you mentioned Raoul's too. all of the kcsr and kcsingles crowds hang out there. :)

I've had 3 sets on 3 different cars, and the only problem I had was a wiring problem at the fuse box on my Z06. That was fixed and all has been fine since. I have the "replacement" relay from PIAA, we didn't use it. Shoot me an email if you get desperate for one.
