Well as most of you might know, I was looking to purchase a corvette recently. Well, I bought one. It is a 2002 Red Coupe with 58k miles.
Anyways let's get to the point. Just to point out, the very first time I checked out the car, I noticed that the security light on the dash was on. Didn't think much of it. So I bought the car and I drove the car home and everything was perfect. Mind you the security light was still on, even while driving it.
So once I got home my neighbor came out to check out my new Corvette. My neighbor was a GM mechanic long ago, so I wanted him to check out the car and see how good of a condition it's in. He said it is in awesome shape and everything is running in tip top shape.
My neighbor pulled out a GM Tech 2, which is a GM specific diagnostic tool. He was checking out the fuel trims, o2 sensors and all that mess. Everything in perfect working order.
And that's when I asked "Hey you think you can turn off that security light on my dash?" Then he said "Yeah man I can do it with this diagnostic tool." Well he did turn the light off, but then the dash said "PULL KEY, WAIT 10 SECONDS" Something like that. So I pulled the key and waiting 10 seconds. After doing that, I put the key in and tried to crank it. Nothing happened.
Car won't start. The car is giving a DTC B2723 code. My neighbor said he would fix it. It has something to do with the security system, the ECU or BCM shut off the fuel pump and starter causing it not to start.
The pull key 10 sec. Is the dreaded column lock issue that is a known issue with C5. GM did a recall yrs ago but not a 100% fix and they programmed fuel shutoff in the process to cover their behind. Hopefully your friend can fix your problem.

What was the issue for others benefit, glad U R going again, thanks.
The issue is kinda hard to explain but to keep it short here it is.
So apparently the car has two ignition switches. One that you can visibly see and another one tucked under the dash. Well the second ignition switch that was hidden, had it's resistor chip fall out of the key hole. So upon using my own key on the 1st ignition switch to crank the car, it wouldn't start. So the way I fixed it was that I grabbed my spare key, taped it to the hidden ignition switch and it fixed my problem.
My guess is that someone tried to steal the car or something and created this by-pass by adding a second ignition switch on it, or someone was trying to install an after market alarm with remote start or something... who knows?
If you have any questions please let me know, I think I made it a little confusing than it had to be.
