After I put my headlights down it makes a terrible noise like its still trying to go down farther. Also when i try to just turn on running lights the headlights now pop up even if I haven't turned them on. I was wondering if there is some type of adjustment or common fix for this. Or if anyone has any insight on what would need to be replaced i prefer to run just my running lights so i can turn the fog lights on without the headlights coming up. Thanks in advance!
It seems you probably have a broken plastic gear in a headlight door motor.
Get a kit like this one (pay attention because there are 2 different kits: one for "97 to early 2000" and another for "late 2000 to 2004") and follow these step-by-step directions. You'll save money and they will last forever.
It would be wise to replace as well the rubber bump stops in both sides (#4 in diagram below). You can get them here.
There is a TSB, that calls for shimming the driver's side motor. The parts needed for this are included in the above mentioned kit (#2 in diagram below).
Yup, headlight gear. mine did the same thing when it went. Replacement gear is the popular fix, but you can spend less time and money by just replacing the entire motor with an aftermarket one.
