My front shocks are shot and vette is sitting way low. The replacement shocks are outrageously expensive. I was talking with my mechanic and he recommended going with Bilstiens, but he also said that if you disconnect the magnetic ride that the vette won't go over 80mph. I don't go over 80 very often but there is an occasion or two. He also said that you can rig it by removing the sensor for the old shock and connect it to the wiring and that should fool the computer. Anyone have any experience with this???
Probably the most popular upgrade is to put in C6 Z06 shocks and if you want, upgrade to the C6 Z51 sway bars. If your C5 is older and still has the plastic sway bar ends, it's best to upgrade to metal ones or even better yet, Moog end links.
As for the faults, a tuner can program those out or they make simulators.
I just posted a thread on fixing my car that ended up with the 80 MPH limiter. It’s very annoying since it continuously pops up error messages and beeping sounds and it’s downright dangerous on the highway if you want to pass someone and get your fuel cut off. Find a Tech II and it can easily be tuned out after you switch to aftermarket shocks.
Seems like addressing the magnetic programming is the bet, cool. I would use tuning rather than simulators, if already own HP Tuners, or know of a Tuner. I don't know the results of simulators (if any), but that's just me.
As far as shocks, yes Bilsteins are well known for an upgrade over factory, and are not expensive. I believe they have HD's and Sports, one is more dampening than the other. The 3rd option is DRM Revalved Bilsteins, which are most effective for handling among the three. Not very much more expensive either, but remember the more the dampening, relatively speaking the stiffer the ride to a certain extent..
