I did a search for this first but really didn't find anything, so sorry if this is a re-post. My '02 has 32,000 miles on it. Yesterday the passenger window and door locks just stopped working AND the DIC gauges went crazy (fuel dropped to zero, temp went to 250, 'low engine power' warning, etc.) The passenger window and door lock doesn't work from either the passenger controls or the driver's side controls. I did the easy stuff -- disconnected and reconnected the battery, checked the fuses, pulled the window and lock control panel out of the door to check the connection -- but all were fine. Is the likely problem in the door control module or the wiring in the passenger door leading to the door control module?
Interesting. The battery is not that old and I pull it out every year when I store the car for the Nov - Feb period. I'll give it a try. Thanks for the fast reply.
Sounds like a “classic” serial data issue !!...open your door and shake the rubber boot between the door and the A pillar...let us know if that fixes it...there is a connector inside the rubber boot and you may have some issues with that connector...corrosion and or some bad terminal connections.
Thank you for getting back to me. Before heading out to get a new battery, I took C5Diag's suggestion to fool around with the rubber boot leading to the door. That solved the problem. Grabbing that boot and shaking the wiring in the boot worked. "C5 Diag" thank you! Now, because this worked, that means I have some connection issue inside that boot. Now I can work on that piece.
Yes !!... I’d peel the boot back and expose the connector and check for pin fitment and or corrosion !!!...what happens is if the door module loses a power or ground that 12 volts or ground finds its way onto the serial data wire and creates all those things you saw...I was in the process of doing a YouTube video on how to troubleshoot this and what I did was take 12 volts and put it on that data line...fuel tank goes to E...water temp maxes out, windows and door locks don’t work...all the DIC warnings are displayed...low fuel, reduced engine power etc...It didn’t hurt any module but you can see what happens !!..,I’ll have time to finish that video once I get moved into my house down here in Florida next week !!...BTW you can try removing the 2 fuses for the door module and see if it goes away doing that...I believe they are fuses 33 and 34 in the IP fuse box.
C5 Diag, thank you. I need to block some time to look at the wiring in the boot to see what is going on. As you know, the door doesn't open very far so that doesn't give a lot of room to rummage around in there for such an inexperienced guy like me. :-)
I just had this happen to my car also. Wiggling the connectors that pass through the rubber grommet fixed it. Not sure how it happened in the first place but now I know where to look if it happens again. There is also an access panel on the inside that you can pull back and see these connectors easier.
You can bet that it will happen again, the one connector has male pins and the other one has female sockets. You have to pull the connectors apart and use a small screw driver to bend the sockets so they make good contact with the male pins.

Hi Smitty. Yes, the Forum was great and helped me solve this problem a few years ago. As an update, about a year after my post, my beautiful '02 was wrecked. I was sitting a a traffic light two miles from my house, just enjoying the sun and the radio, when BAM, I was hit by a bus. Hit me so hard that it pushed me under the Mercedes in front of me. I walked away unharmed, but another two feet and that Mercedes would have collapsed the windshield . . .

I would suggest that you don't neglect that connector for too long. It may be nothing more than a loose terminal(s). But, it could just as easily be corrosion due to water ingress. If its corrosion and you wait too long you may be faced with replacing all of those terminals, rather than merely cleaning them up with some contact cleaner.
