I know this has been beaten to death but before I jump and get the darn thing - can I expect decent gains on a near stock C5 (Vortex, Corsa, and Powerloader) with LS6 manifold alone? Decent gains = 10-15RWHP. I don't see how this is feasible because GM only reported 5hp gain by adding the new manifold in 2001/2002.
I made 10 rear wheel hp and 10 rear wheel ft/trq from just the intake swap. (Dynoed before and after for non-bs proof.) I wrote up the story about 2 weeks ago. I'm just south of you in Wichita and ended up doing the swap in one hour. Paid $389 through lmperformance.com and felt that it was definitely worth the money. Good-Luck.
jimman, believe it. I've got the dyno results to prove it and I specifically tried to control all variables so to keep the results as accurate as possible. As far as the temperature change, there would have to be a difference of at least 15-20 degrees to see much of a difference and the temperature on both dyno days, before and after the mod, were very similiar.
sbkim, Unfortunately I don't plan on making it up to the Olathe area any time soon. I'm in the AF Reserves and am busy up until Feb. when I'll be leaving KS forever and heading west to Riverside CA!!!
jimman, I believe the reason GM only got 5hp. was because of the stock airbox. I believe that everyone that has done the LS6 intake has already changed the stock airbox. I did mine after the Blackwing and the LS6 intake gave a SOTP improvement that was similar to what I felt when I put on the Blackwing.
Among the things already mentioned, keep in mind there were other changes in 2001 which may reason why GM only got a 5hp increase but you might get more.
2001 has 2 additional cats.
2001 has cast iron exhaust manifolds...yes, they are said to flow slightly better, but they are giant heat sinks, and underhood temps are quite a bit higher. With a non cold-air intake ( ie: stock), this will make a difference.
10 hp sounds realistic to me, all other things being equal.
