Hello everyone I just bought a 2002 c5 z06 my weakness is wiring I’ve been fixing old school classics for years but they are all mechanical so this is a pretty big leap for me I am fixing it up right now and I got three codes that I don’t know much about and I hope you can help me out.
Code 1: tcsc1242h
code 2: c1282H
code 3 : u1000hc
the car also has no spark when I pulled the plug and cranked it I’m guessing it is a ignition coil or all of the coils? Thank you .
I didn't bother checking the first 2 codes since they end in H for historic meaning they aren't a problem right now. The last one is a Class 2 serial bus failure. The PCM can't talk to the other modules on the bus. You may want to check the fuses and connections to be sure everything for the PCM is connected including the ground points. The most common data bus failures are due to the affected module not turning on.
I wouldn’t worry about those 3 DTC’s for now. I’d check for spark on both banks and if no spark we need to be focused on that...if no spark I’d check for injector pulse just to be certain we don’t have a crank sensor issue...a quick check for no injector pulse is to crank the engine and see if the Tach moves at all...if you have a scan tool and pull up the RPM PID you can have a visual for RPM on the scan tool. If good injector pulse you need to concentrate on the no spark...you will need to check that power is available to the coils and that you have a good ground...also you need to check the control wire...I did a YouTube video a while back on how to check the control side of the coil !!
Pulling plug wires on an LS engine is often fatal for the wires. They are on so long, both the boot, and the actual electrical connection to the plug will stick and pulling will ruin the wire. There is a plastic coated gripper that works ok, but if the connection is corroded to the plug, you will ruin the wire. Always coat the new boot with di-electric grease. The coils are pretty tough, and unusual for one to fail, and all 8? You can ruin one.though if you try to run them with the plug wire not connected to a plug that is either grounded or in the engine. get a good spark tester and follow C5 DIAG’s video on coil testing. With a spark tester, you can test both plug and wire, as the good testers can substitute one or both.
