I am getting ready to install a HUD in my 99 Coupe. My question is, Are the holes pre-drilled for the projector and if not what is a good way to get the proper placement for the projector. There is nothing in the search (recent or archived) that mentions this.
This project seem easy, but I just don't want to get started on something and find out, I am not able to complete it or something comes up, that I am not able to figure out.
Place the projector in position in the dash, fasten the rearward mounting leg to the steering wheel support (your 99 should have that one hole pre-drilled), and mark the holes with a felt tip marker. It should be fairly obvious when it is positioned correctly.

Re: Another HUD install Question (Resqjoc)
Here's a copy of it from XportC5:
HUD upgrade is pretty simple for '99 and up cars. '99 was the first year HUD was offered. All '99 and up cars have a plug in the instrument cluster for the HUD projector to plug into. '97 and '98 cars do not. For '97 & '98 cars you would have to get a '99/up instrument cluster and get GM Serv. Dept. to program your mileage into it. besides that little clitch all you need is a HUD projector and a dash bezel. remove the dash pad and cut a "U" shaped hole in it. GM gives you the marks on the back side, instal the bezel, then set the projector in, it sits against the firewall above the column, there is a place for it to fit right in. The projector has a leg on it that fits against the column support with a 7mm screw. HUD equiped cars have a 10mm stud in the firewall area for the projector, since your adding it, the stud won't be there. I used 2 part epoxy adhesive to help secure it. next you just reinstal the dash pad and the cluster and plug in the projector to the back of the cluster. It's real easy. HUD cars have a special windshield but you can get by with a regular one. I spent about 300.00 and it took me a couple hours to put it in.

My 98 has the "notch in the column support for the HUD projector, instead of epoxying the front mounts, I marked the location of the holes, drilled and used rubber compression nuts, works GREAT!
when you take the dash pad off you will see an "indentation" in the fiberglass support, the HUD projector will fit in there perfectly, while the projector is sitting in there you will also notice the "notch" in the coloumn support for the rear mount of the projector.
the dash pad has indentations where the dash can be cut for the bezel.
someone did one in the tech tips. check it out. Once you take the dash pad off its self explanatory. The rubber expanding plugs work great and you just have do add one hole for the rear support. Its not hard and well worth it.
A good price for a projector is any where between 200.00 to 300.00, but if you wait and be patient, you can find one pretty cheap. Just keep looking and you will find one.
A good place to start looking, are Corvette swap meets and right here on CF.
Your tech tip was great for the HUD install, but I wonder if you could help a little more. There are as you said plenty of tips out there for getting the dash off, but I can't find anything for removing the dash pad itself. Any advice on that would be appreciated.
Do a search, but when you do a search change the data topics to archive and type "dash" in the Search" box and you will get a list of topics relating to dashes
I'm going to put the aluminum bezels on (thinking about red anodize maybe) with the white gauge faces and want to do a shift light at the same time. I have decided to go with the Autometer 5310 RPM activated module in the glove compartment and the 12 LED 5332 light in the center air conditioner vent. This will give me a very clean invisible install with easy access to the needed wiring and access to the RPM and brightness controls without taking the dash back off, while putting a bright shift light in my peripheral vision.
