Just a quick thanks to Brian and Dan at Speedworks in Lewisville, Texas. Brought my (almost) stock 2002 in for an LS1-Edit tune. Went from a baseline of 309.9 hp to a much smoother 320.3 hp (SAE). Sorry about the pic quality, but it still shows how they were able to smooth the knocking out and get a pretty flat line on the A/F ratio. They also put in a lower temp stat and changed the fan turn-on temps. Oh, and they got rid of that useless CAGS light on the dash!

I'm always confussed with this subject. When I asked a certain tuner here in NJ about doing a dyno tune with my 2002 they said not much improvement can be made unless it had a bunch of mods. earlier models yes, new 2002 no. Told to save my money? Is the car that much smoother? I figure the lower stat made most of the hp improvement.

Traffic Hater (love that name!)

I believe the bulk of the improvement came decreasing the knock retard with timing adjustments and also getting that A/F ratio to "flatline" closer to an optimal mix. Keep in mind that the baseline dyno was made with the lower temp stat in place, so the incremental improvement is not due to that (in my opinion).
I agree it's expensive for just a couple of ponies, but I like knowing that I'm getting the most out of this engine. Also, subsequent LS1-edits done for future mods are priced around $100 or less per full session.

Nice improvement Steve. Sounds like you've gotten over those initial feelings about getting deeper into that car!
Yes, it's very scary at this point. H/C and SC are becoming more "interesting" to me. I'm hoping I can hold out for a little while and do some more appearance mods first. This car has more than enough power for me for the time being. ;)
Re: Thanks Speedworks...Found Some Missing HP! (C5 StockSwap)
That's kind of how I feel. My 2002 coupe seems fast enough. 110MPH in the 1/4 traps and have gone 168MPH on a baron road in PA. With the targa roof off no less! Do all you Guys/Gals who have 500 RWH cars really drive them like I can drive mine.
Drive mine like I stole it
It just makes me go :bb when I see a car on this forum with 450 RWH. Besides the track, where can you drive such a beast. I can barely keep all 310 RWH to the ground! :D

Re: Thanks Speedworks...Found Some Missing HP! (MySea5)
You were at 309.9 with the Blackwing and Corsas?
Yep, which roughly translates to 364hp at the flywheel. So, I got a little boost with the Blackwing, but until it was correctly tuned, I was obviously not getting all I could. 377hp at the fly sounds better to me!

Not knocking it, just confused as mine along with many others I have seen had almost identical base lines when bone stock. (see graph). All went to 322+ with intake and exhaust. I know dyno's can vary greatly, just wondering what the deal is. Have thought about giving Speedworks a shot at my 01'
Interesting, I had not heard this before?
It's not surprising. The 02's and 03's have significant knock retard from midrange and up. With the Blackwing he may have been even leaner. Nice job.
