OK, so I've procured the receiver. Now I'm just understanding that a straight R&R is not the way to go? I can potentially disable my whole car?
I replaced my 1998 receiver with an updated 2003 receiver from a wreck. When I bought it from Contemporary Corvette I asked them for the 2003 plug as well. The 2003 wiring matched color for color with the '98 and the plug fit into the '98 harness. Spliced it in and the whole job took less than 30 minutes.
Thank you for the information! I read a post on a disaster but I think it was a generation six Corvette. Or the disaster or something other than replacing the receiver! Can’t wait to get this done. It’s been fun going old school using the key to get in and out, though.

Do you have a part number for the 2001-2004 receiver?
Thanks. I found and ordered one. Now, where in the car is it located?
There's several previous posts regarding replacing the receiver, where it's located, and how to do it. For a convertible it's on the driver's side under the rear top cover. For the coupe and other models I think it's above the driver's side rear wheel. Try doing a search and you'll find what others did. GOOD LUCK!
