My amazing hands just cracked the fuel pump reservoir while I was installing the new Racetronix unit... see pics.
Is this part critical for pump functionality? Is it ok to install it still or I should look for a replacement?
Just my 2 cents, but in most cases it won't make any difference. If you run HPDEs with only 1/4 tank of fuel, or less, then it probably will. Obviously, that plastic "well" is there to prevent momentary loss of fuel supply/pressure when the tank is low on fuel, OR if you're on a twisty, winding road with a somewhat low fuel level. It works much like an oil sump does for an oil pump pickup, in that it tries to keep a consistent fuel supply for the pump. If you don't run the car under a 1/4 tank of gas, you'll probably be fine 99% of the time......
Yeah... I also spoke with Racetronix and they do not recommend using it. I'll try to move all internals from Racetronix into my old unit housing.
If you have the broken piece, you could try JB Weld, or some other brand of steel epoxy. If the Racetronix stuff doesn't fit your old pump well, just remember; Racetronix is in business to sell fuel pumps. If the epoxy doesn't work, and I see no reason why it wouldn't, get a small piece of stainless steel shim stock, enough to cover the hole, and epoxy that in place using an appropriately sized band/hose clamp. You may want to leave the band/hose clamp on there permanently. I would avoid buying another pricey fuel pump unless none of these suggestions pan out. Hope this gives you some ideas, and helps you out. Best of luck....
