LS1 Engines - need advice
With the new supercharged mustangs, the TT Porsches , the soon to be released new Audis etc.... being delivered, I feel that that the time has come to do a significant upgrade. So In order to stay a little ahead of the competition for the next couple of years, I decided that I need more displacement , heads/cam/clutch etc..
I want something like 422 CI NA and target rwhp 470 ~ 500 and it should pass California emissions without having to jump through hoops. Also, the engine should be reliable and should have great drivebility..
I've been looking at the web sites of some forum tuners but the more I read, the more confused I become so I need your valued opinions.
What is the difference between:
1) Big bore/small bore LS1
2) Long block / short block
3) Is my '99 LS1 a long block or short block?
For example, looking at ARE, they offer 422 CI with short block as well as long block, big bore/small bore .
I'm not a 1/4 mile racer but I like highway acceleration best . My car is 6-speed if that matters
Which one would you choose and why?
Thanks
Roger
