v6turbo87, While I tend to agree it is unclear what actually worked and did not work prior to the BCM / LCM5 replacement / mod. The BCM appeared to be causing a significant current draw and was taking down a fully charged battery in less than 1 hour. Since I have the RFA removed, checking the wiring ground, power and other wireswould be an easy way to rule the RFA in or out. Just need to know what to expect on each wire... Thanks, dofdear
Goose,
I've located the RFA and removed it. The print you provided is fussy. What should I expect on each of the 3 wires at the RFA connector?
Also, If I replace the RFA is there any matching with a scan tool required or will the system automatically recognize and marry up?
Thanks, dofdear
If you double click on the above schematic, it should open in a new window, from there you can enlarge the photo (and move the photo around) to read the schematic and troubleshooting procedures.
Orang wire> 12volts power in to RFA
Black/White Stripe wire> Ground source (wire) to RFA
Pink Wire wire> Serial Data Line> DO NOT PUT POWER TO THIS WIRE.

Replacing the RFA is "plug-and-play" upon replacing the RFA, all you need to do is sync/train the FOB's and program or learn the tire pressure sensors at each of the wheels...

Did you get a chance to check out your BCM/RFA any further? I know this time of year gets pretty hectic. Throw in this DAMNED covid virus, and hectic can turn deadly. Please let us know when you get it figured out.......
Thanks for asking. So took to the shop and had the mobile technician who does their software and troubleshooting all arranged. Not 5 minutes later received a call that his mom passed so we are delayed until maybe later this week. Life sucks some times! Will keep this thread updated as more information is available. dofdear

Sometimes it does suck. I feel bad for the guy who lost his mom, too. Holidays will now always remind him of his loss. Best of luck to you. I'm sure you'll get it figured out.......

The orange wire is 12V or battery, the black/white wire is ground and the pink is the serial bus. Check the power and ground wires first. If they check out then you have to track down the serial bus issue.
The module is plug and play and the training and fobs should simply work once it's connected and functional. There is no BCM programmed required or any other programming required to make this work. On a 98 there isn't even an option to program the TPMS in the BCM. That option was added when the Z06's began to ship because they came without TPM sensors.
Heck, you can even install the newer module and use the newer and cheaper fobs and TPMs in the car without doing anything extra.

In case anyone else is having this issue I was able to get my remotes to program. I simply removed the negative from the battery for about 30 minutes then re-connecting it. I then went through the normal prosses and all my remotes programed with no problem.
