I am researching a ported throttle body to complete the intake side of my stock motor. LS6 intake is in place, along w/ all the the other goodies in front of the throttle body. On the back side, I have the TPIS long tube headers, 2 cats removed, w/ X-pipe and B&B exhaust.
Can you guys recommend a ported throttle body? Are all the aftermarket shops selling them from the same source? or are some of the shops really doing the work in-house and as a result, are they Better or Worse than others?
I've been told from 2 aftermarket shops to stay away from the BBK throttle body (even thought they both stock & sell this item)
Re: Please recommend a ported throttle body (NVR BRNG)
Shaner's is supposed to have excellent TBS- according to guys on an LSX forum. It's Shaner's S2 Performance. Do a Google.com search. Good Luck.

The Shaner & the Bauer throttle bodys are getting some good reports from some of the guys over on LS1Tech.com. Do a search on TBs over on that forum you will find alot of info on them.
Re: Please recommend a ported throttle body (bparker)
We modify our own throttle bodies in house, and sell them for $89.95 w/exchange. We usually only see about 8hp on a 383ci engine, and not much on a stock engine. We install one on every car we build, but we don't really push it as a single mod since the gain is minimal.

Ed,
Thanks for the info.
I know small gains are hard to measure but do you think your TB makes 2 hp
on a stock engine? If so I would still buy it. I'll pay $45 per hp any day.
Then would 8 hp be reasonable on a SC car?

Re: Please recommend a ported throttle body (corvette dave)
Hi Dave -
On a stock engine, HP gain is minimal, if anything, the real benefit is that the ported TB smoothes airflow entering the engine, allowing more air to enter, rather than being caught in the turbulence right at the throttle opening. On a S/C car, the air is being forced in, so it's not as big of an issue, but the same principle still applies. The most noticable change is the improvement in throttle response. Like I said, we install one on every engine we build, so obviously we think it's worthwhile. I just try to be clear that bolting one on a stock engine isn't going to show much on a chassis dyno.
We do keep these in stock, so if anyone is interested, give me a call and I can ship one out right away.
Thanks,
Ed
