skid,
We see it quite a bit in varying degree's... with some of the 01 Z06's the absolute worst for obvious reasons. Are you keeping track of how much oil you are having to add, if any, inbetween oil changes?
I had thought I went thru a half of quart in 300 miles...but was not consistent so I started to think I goofed in my assessment....I just recently changed the oil....havent checked it since I havent gone far....is this an indication of a re-ring in the future?
Do some searches on the mod of the PCV system, all of us are getting oil in the intake, it's normal. Here is one of the threads with a high dollar fix, and the link at the bottom of this link is the low dollar fix, enjoy :) http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=362010
I just took my throttle body off to port and polish and noticed oil pooled in the intake....is this normal????
Is it normal?? In short- yes. The PCV system on our cars do allow an inordinate amount of oil into the intake, especially for those of us that drive hard a lot. I posted some pics (Care of Shirl Dickey/SDRE) some time ago of a cheap and popular PCV mod that works well. I am currently employing an adaptation of these pics: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=390663
the only difference between what Shirl did here and what i did is that, instead of acquiring another driver side valve cover to use on the pass side (smaller hole for the air breather), I purchased a trick air breather assy from LS1motorsports.com that fits into the stock oil filler neck on the passenger cover.
The mod with the lil blue canister and filter in glass tube looks cool....where can one acquire this? I tried to email/IM mellow yellow but its turned off :(
RWJ have you tatolly disabled the PCV system on your car?
yes, i have. Contrary to some beliefs, i have not found ill affects of not have a positive crankcase vent ever over the years on many motors. I dont see where this motor would be any different. Some will argue that not having some sort of vacuum pressure in the case can have ill affect on ring performance. I have never seen this. My first vette i put 80K miles on a 430rwhp small block. When i tore it down, the rings, pistons and liners looked great. Never had oil consumption problems.
however, the sieve trap PCV mod looks like a happy medium if it actually keeps oil out of the intake completely. I may try that on the next heads/cam motor i build up here.
Benelliwang!! I love your tech tip format!!! So, did the 15$ encompass the MGD's too?!?! Or was that charged to a separate 'entertainment' account!!?! you should write all tech tips!! Very entertaining.
on a serious note, have you checked the intake since this mod? Are you 100% certain you are no longer getting oil in the intake? Thanks.
This mod looks to be the best since you still have the vacumn and also the cheapest (cheaper than the 2 breather filters)also with this mod you are not changing any pressures correct????
The only thing is since you silicone the one end of the catch...is the other end accessable to empty the oil? also where can we get the parts you used(minus the MGD...I know where that is supplied...lol)

ANd what type of filter is it? fuel/oil?
How often do you have to change it?
Thanks alot for your insight
Marc
I siliconed the little thing at the bottom, inside the black nipple looking thing at the bottom of the clear tube. In there is a check valve and I didn't want vacuum opening it and having the oil sucked back in. Some people said it is not necessary. Also, there are some other similiar filters you can get a auto stores. It doesn't hurt to check around.
I got the parts at HomeDepot and somepeople found it at Walmart. I have only 1 spoon full of soy sauce so far. I guess my engine doen't really suck that much oil.
BTW, I cannot take credit on this mod. It was another forum member's idea. I just wrote a tech tip for it that's all. I DO take credit for keeping MGD stock up though :jester

Sorry, MGD cost extra  Best to buy them in bulk at Cosco
I am not 100% certain about the oil going into the intake. There is no way I can tell, the intake is already oily before this mod. I will eventually replace my Ellis Juan intake with Ellis Sex intake, then I can be sure of the effectiveness of this mod :yesnod:
You can purchase a different compressor filter from Pep Boys where you do not have to silicone the bottom. There is also a sort of bancock valve to easily drain the oil. I think it is $20 in there air compressor section.
ok any worries with the Campell air compressor filter used for the pcv mod??? I noticed after i bought one it says not for use with synthetic oils? (warning explosion)
