Default Timing cover problem

Hi all,

Im trying to install an edlebrock 2 piece cover and as expected it needs grinding. Ive ground on it for a while and now im just OVER it!! I tried and tried to find the link with the guy who used to sell the modified OEM covers but cant find any leads on him. If anyone knows where i can get a modified 2 piece OEM cover thats known to work or is willing to sell me theirs please let me know.

Thank you.

Edelbrock has a good name. The QTP unit I bought years ago did need some slight clearancing when running a Melling high volume oil pump AND a double row timing chain. This would've been on the bottom half on the inside, around the seal area. Didn't take that much grinding. I'm assuming this is the problem area you are having? Have you contacted Edelbrock? Are you running a double row timing chain, and a Hi volume oil pump, or????

The old cover goes right on, but the edlebrock does hit on the bottom. My tuner warned me that they have had problems with all 2 piece timing covers but i decided to try one anyway. This is why i just want to find a modified OEM cover.
The pump and chain are OEM.

Can you elaborate on the issue with yours? What does it hit on the bottom?

Try using a thin piece of cardboard, or heavy paper, between the oil pump and cover, including the bolts that hold the oil pump to the block. My hex head cap screws holding the pump to the block had to be ground down, as well as grinding the cover. If cardboard/heavy paper won't work for you, try using a dab of paint on each bolt head. I don't know how handy, or skilled you are, so it's harder to recommend what to do. Do you know what Dykem machinists blue is? You could use this on the pump and inside of the cover, or even spray paint the inside of the cover. Then try fitting the cover over the pump. Your interfering areas will scrape the color off. I'm 99% sure the cover is hitting the oil pump, and/or the bolt heads somewhere. As for getting a modified cover, you said the OEM cover fits, correct? This is confusing. Why modify an OEM cover if it fits?? You have the 2pc. cover. If you're going to modify a cover, why not modify the 2pc?
Hope this helps you. Good luck......

Well, since the oem one fits, i figured i would just get an oem cover that was cut in half. Someone was selling modified oem covers years ago but disappeared. Anyway i ended up getting a qtp cover for cheap that was used for testing cams on a dyno. Its already been ground down for a high volume pump and double roller chain. That will fit anything i ever stuff under the cover. I really appreciate you giving me your input.
