I have a rather loud knock in the Vert that at times is inconsistent, not a consistent tap like a rocker arm. I had a knowledgeable friend listen to it and he believes its a bent pushrod. The car had a slight tapping last evening and I made the mistake of revving the engine to about 5k and now the tap is a loud knock. Anyway, I'm told its somewhat common on this engine and and easy fix. Since I'm out of warranty, I'm going to try it myself.
Any comments, suggestions?
Just take off your valves covers, and all your rockers. pull all your pushrods and roll on a smooth surface.
when putting the rockers back on. There is no need to set valve lash, as its built in.
TQ all rockers to about 15 lb ft then crank the engine over a couple of times WITH THE COILS WIRING HARNESS DISCONNECTED. Then TQ to final setting of 22 lb ft. You might want to re crank over the engine a couple of times and recheck TQ settings. Then hook everything back up, and start it and check for leaks.
You shouldnt need new valve cover gastkets if your engine isnt that old. If so, there real cheap.
