Hello fellow vette owners. Been having the remove key for 10 seconds. It just started after removing my negative terminal wire on battery. Does it when car sits for a little and if I crank car and try driving car does shut off. After waiting 10 seconds car is ok. Steering column message use to come on after turning on car but I just press reset and it disappears. The owner did install the steering column lock bypass module and never had this problem till recently. Reading that battery could be the culprit and I noticed when I do roll down the windows the interior light dim slightly and battery is a little over 4 years now. Any input would be appreciated.
Looks like it's your battery. C5 are very finicky regarding battery power. Just go to an outfit such as Auto Zone, they will test your battery. You can start by taking a voltmeter and checking your battery yourself. 12.6v or above is good.
Could be the battery. If your car does not have the LMC5 module, would be a good idea to get one. Those column lock bypass modules are OK, but can be iffy as well. The LMC5 is better.

will go and get the battery checked and hope that fixes the issue and worst case get that other steering column bypass

so the past owner installed the exact bypass module
My 97 coupe has been doing the same thing the last couple of months ever since I installed a new battery. My car is a M6 and I do not want to install a LMC5 and have my steering wheel not lock up, why make it easier for somebody if they try to steal my car, at least with an automatic the shifter is locked out. I am still doing internet searches to find out what component, bad ground or what ever causes the pull key wait 10 seconds, I want to fix it, not install a work around/bypass. PS I never get the service steering column message.
