Automatic Shifter **** Stuck Down
I am having a problem with my 2003 C5 automatic shifter. When I depress the **** to shift gears the **** stays down and will shift into any gear. It goes into park but does not let the key turn all the way to the off position, leaving the power on. The first time this happened I had to disconnect the battery to shut the power off. I then found that if I gave the **** a slap it would pop back up. It is taking harder and harder slaps to release it. I just let the battery run down this morning by forgetting it. So it has to be fixed. I have been reading the service manuals for a couple of hours this afternoon. I see how to remove the whole shifter assembly, but I found nothing specific to my problem. I have had the console out of it before for replacement after damage, so nothing new there. I don't know if there is an adjustment on that release lever or not, or if I am going to need a whole new assembly I just would like to know a little more about it before I dive in. Any body have any experience with this.
